Graham – the name given to the artwork – looks like an old man with multiple layers of skin around delicate parts of the body like the head and the torso. His warped features and lack of neck prevent the possibility of broken bones, while his strong legs give him the luxury of escaping a crash on foot.
Sculptor Patricia Piccinini partnered with a trauma surgeon and a crash investigator to research the ways that someone can survive a crash not only while in the car, but also while walking down the road.

“What excites me about this project is the relevance to our community,” Piccinini said.
The interactive sculpture will be featured in the Victorian road safety campaign “Towards Zero.”
